Hidden Treasures

With groups canceled for today, I figured I’d share more from our day yesterday and the prizes we competed for.

Last week; our groups hunted for arrowheads, rock carvings and on our search we even found black bear claw!

If you didn’t know our village is rich with indigenous people’s history and in a few special places there is a great chance you can find true carvings, engraved centuries ago.

I explained to the kids how some carvings held extreme significance and others could have been children like them, bored and lacking a device to hold their attention.

The people who lived here before us where great story tellers and took great pride in the items they crafted.

It was with that inspiration I worked on some custom necklaces which I painted with colours representing the indigenous culture.

There is lots of information about the cruel past some natives have endured but little a young mind could learn from it.

I believe the kids can learn everything from us taking some extra time, being prouder of our work and sharing gifts with each other.
