Back to school

Yesterday and this morning, students have begun making their long-awaited return to the classroom for what will likely be one of the most challenging years in schooling history.
With politics, the internet and skewed behaviors playing a huge impact during our day-to-day lives, my heart really goes out to all of the teachers who need to work their way through that drama and aim to teach your kids something.
It won’t be easy, although it never has been.
I am someone who had a miserable time in school. I failed 4 years of math and upon leaving high-school, had to return again for 3 more years of adult education. The inspiration came from wanting to try a job working with the youth (here at the Youth Centre), all I needed was that knowledge I had totally bailed on learning.
My story isn’t unique. There are many people who return to school and complete their diploma but, it begs the question of; why do we focus so hard on the destination and never the method of travel?
Often, we are told the ideals and the standards but not given much guidance on how to reach them.
My success came from realizing we are all equal, your brain and mine have the same capacities and knowing the answer was out there; I just needed to find it.
I’m wishing everyone a brilliant school year, students and teachers alike. I hope you’ll rise to the challenge and that you’ll conquer the adversity that comes with such a fragile social structure.
Ethan.
